Student Spotlight - Rebecca Nall
Welcome to the first in our Student Spotlight series, highlighting the voice of Life and Environmental Sciences students across campus. We’re kicking things off with the (literal) voices of students on BURN FM, the University’s radio station. Meet Rebecca, a 2nd year Biochemistry student in the School of Biosciences.
Hi! I’m Rebecca, Acting Head of Programming at BURN FM, where I organise our schedule of over 50 student shows. I’ve always enjoyed listening to the radio and university is a great place to try something completely new.
I joined BURN in my first year and have been hosting my show ‘Tuesday Pop Hour’ ever since. You can keep up to date on my Instagram @becks.on.the.decks.
Alongside student shows at Burn FM, we have 4 team shows: Sports (Monday), Arts (Tuesday), Music (Wednesday) and News (Thursday). Team shows are open to all University of Birmingham students and are a great way to try radio, meet new people and talk about things you’re passionate about. They’re run by committee members who meet at 6pm to plan the show and then go live from 7-8pm every week.
I’d love to stay involved with radio in some way after I graduate, because it’s so fun. If this sounds like you too, come to one of our team shows and try it out!
BURN FM broadcasts from 9am-10pm Monday to Friday - tune in!

Next time we’ll catch up with Alistair McVey, Deputy Head of Sport and co-host of the Sports Team show on BURN FM.
