As Director of Postgraduates (PGR), I am responsible for supporting and developing the PGR community. I represent the interests of PGRs in university policy-making and work closely with College PGR leads to ensure that we offer a high-quality PGR experience. I chair the Graduate Research Board, whose remit is to develop PGR provision, support best practice and assure quality.

I am responsible for leading and managing the University Graduate School Team. This includes working closely with the Dean of Postgraduates and cross-University liaison with academic and professional service colleagues of all levels to ensure a high quality PGR student experience.

Alongside our Community Engagement Officer, Lizzie, my role is focused on building a multidisciplinary and inclusive postgraduate community. With Lizzie focused on PGTs, I develop and facilitate engagement and wellbeing activities for PGRs. This includes leading the University Graduate School’s flagship PGR events such as the Annual Research Poster Conference, the Three-Minute Thesis and the Images of Research competitions.  If you are a postgraduate researcher at the University and have ideas for engagement and development activities, please get in touch.

I’m the Community Engagement Officer for postgraduate taught students (PGTs). I organise and oversee the programme of events and activities the Graduate School puts on for PGTs, building a multidisciplinary and inclusive community. I am always interested in hearing your ideas for events and workshops and would really love to hear from you if you are a postgraduate looking to set up and lead a group or activity for PGTs.

My role is to provide funding support and guidance to prospective and current postgraduate researchers. This includes running funding advice events, promoting funding opportunities and developing online resources for PGRs. I am also the Grant Administrator for the Economic and Social Research (ESRC) funding at the University. I look after studentship applications and budgets, as well as giving advice and guidance related to ESRC policies.

I’m the Project Manager for the Postgraduate Taught Knowledge Exchange Pathway (PGT KEP). This involves everything from helping set the module spec, recruiting external partners and establishing comms plans for the project. I work with Kate the Project Administrator to develop the project and make sure students get the best experience.

The PGT Knowledge Exchange Pathway is a small team within UGS, working on a new project that partners postgraduate students with West Midlands organisations to share knowledge and skills. In my role as administrator, I am responsible for the day-to-day administration of the project.

Victoria Upton 

I provide clerical support to the Dean of Postgraduates and Head of UGS. I am responsible for the day to day administration and co-ordination of UGS and PGCARMS, alongside the PGR Administrative Assistant.  I also support the UGS team as a whole by managing the school’s budgets and assisting in general office activities.

My role is to provide administrative support to the University Graduate School by dealing with student queries and assisting with the upkeep of the PGCARMS programme. I also work closely with various teams in Careers Network to organise, promote and run PGR Careers events throughout the year.

I am the Postgraduate Taught Careers Adviser. I provide careers advice and guidance for postgraduate taught students across the university through one-to-one appointments, e-guidance, online resources and workshops to support students in making decisions about their future. I am based at Westmere Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and in Careers Network on Tuesday and Friday.

I look after the planning, organisation, delivery and evaluation of careers support activities and resources especially for Postgraduate Researchers. The aim of my service is to help support PGRs in making decisions about their future career, exploring their career options and making effective applications. This includes running workshops at Westmere and around the University, as well as online resources and one-to-one support. I’m based in Westmere Monday – Thursday if you want to pop in to arrange a meeting or ask any questions.

My role aims to support and encourage postgraduate researchers in developing their enterprise, intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial skills.  An enterprising mindset is a valuable asset and is of great benefit to all career paths; academia, industry or self-employment. I collaborate with businesses, entrepreneurs and academics and deliver interactive skills workshops, opportunities to work on a real-world employer challenge, speaker series, case studies, online competitions and more.
