Learn more about how to write effective academic job applications at this interactive seminar.

Earlier this semester we brought you 'Writing Academic Job Applications: Tips Tutorial' which covered the basics of academic CVs, cover letter and supporting statements; this session goes into more detail around key mistakes that applicants make, and looks at some practical examples of how to... and how NOT to... talk about your research and teaching experience in your applications.

We'll also touch on the emotional side of job hunting, especially when many factors in the process can feel outside of our own control.

Who should attend:

  • Postgraduate Research students (PGRs) currently applying for academic jobs
  • PGRs who are interested in applying for academic posts in the future and would like to learn more about composing applications

This seminar is designed to help you:

  • Recognise ways to communicate your experience effectively in academic applications
  • Identify some key factors that make a 'good' application
  • Compare and contrast examples to demonstrate good practice in writing applications
  • Ask any questions about academic job applications to our PGR Careers Adviser

Note: an abridged version of this seminar will be recorded at a later date and will be made available on the PGR Careers in Academia Canvas course for those unable to attend in person on the day.
