This event looks at key things that you can do during your PhD to develop your academic profile, all based around free training and development initiatives run by the University of Birmingham.

Research Skills Adviser Lynne Harris will outline how you can start to build your academic research profile and visibility, through areas like social media for researchers and managing your online profile.

Jamie Morris, Principal Educational Developer in HEFi, will outline teaching accreditations and other training that PGRs can take advantage of during their PhD in relation to teaching.

Lauren Deere from the Public Engagement with Research team will give some pointers on how you can get involved in public engagement during your PhD, including initiatives run by the University’s own PER team.

To sum up, PGR Careers Adviser Holly Prescott will discuss how these activities can be helpful in specific parts of the academic application and interview process.

  • "Good introductory course to what types of training and support are available. Really informative and helpful."
  • "Applying some of the points discussed into actual job listings and other practical examples were really helpful to think about how to present your own experience/qualifications."
