Engaging Public Audiences with your PhD

This 2 hour training session is an ideal introductory session for PGRs looking to learn more about public engagement, and engaging public audiences with their research. It would ideally suit 3rd, 4th year and beyond researchers with a firm idea of their research, but is open to all PGRs.

Please note that this is an online repeat of our October 2023/January 2024 workshop - please do not attend if you have attended previously.

The session has been designed to provide an introduction to public and community engagement and the knowledge required to help you develop audience focussed PE activity with diverse audiences.

This in person session will be delivered by experts in public and community engagement from the University of Birmingham central Public and Cultural Engagement Team and will offer a chance to meet with other PGRs from the University.

Why join us? As a result of the workshop, you will:

• • Understand the benefits of public engagement to researchers, to research and to the public.
  • Gain an awareness of audience types and their needs.
  • Gain an increased understanding of Birmingham communities.
  • Understand the role of messaging in creating intellectually accessible activity.
  • Gain an increased understanding of activity planning process.

This event is open only to University of Birmingham postgraduate researchers (PGR).

PGR programmes include: MPhil, MMus, MRes, MA by Research, MSc by Research, MLitt, PhD, PhD with integrated study, EngD, DDS, MD, Higher doctorates and Professional doctorates.

Registration will close 15 mins before the event start time or when tickets are sold out. We will be checking attendees against the Eventbrite registration and you may be refused entry if we have met capacity and you are not on the list. We have limited capacity so please cancel your ticket if you can no longer attend.
