In recognition of Armistice Day, UGS Scholars Katrina and Yordanka are excited to bring you this month's film club selection - 'A Hidden Life'.
Prepare for a night of an immersive story of the spiritual cost of war and the courage it takes to defy it.
Based on real events, A Hidden Life is the story of an unsung hero, Bl. Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife, Fani, and children which keeps his spirit alive.
If you are looking for an ambitious and visually absorbing film which will take you to another time and place, and yet powerfully resonate with the issues of our time, look no further. In a month dedicated to the remembrance of those who have died in the line of duty, we are inviting you to join us at Westmere for an evening of introspection about how the good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts of ordinary people who lived faithfully 'a hidden life'.
Whether you are a fan of epic historical dramas, captivating cinematography or simply looking to brush up your German language skills, we are excited to see you at our film club in November! Please note that subtitles are available for parts not in English.
Be sure to RSVP to secure your spot and bring your friends along!
Please note this is an alcohol-free event.
This event is open only to University of Birmingham postgraduate researchers (PGR).
PGR programmes include MPhil, MMus, MRes, MA by Research, MSc by Research, MLitt, PhD, PhD with integrated study, EngD, DDS, MD, Higher doctorates and Professional doctorates.
