PGR Film Club

Join us for Film Club this May led by UGS Scholar Katrina and regular film club attendee Martyn Fisk.

Two back to back stories, four lonely people, finding and losing love in the neon-washed streets of Hong Kong.

Thirty years on from it's release, the PGR Film Club's showing for May is Chungking Express.

Starring Tony Leung (in his second of seven collaborations with director Wong-Kar Wai), Brigitte Lin, Faye Wong and Takeshi Kaneshiro, Chungking Express is a film focused more on the journey of love rather than the destination, sharing in the ups and downs of it's characters lives to uniquely empathetic result.

Named after its two main settings, the "Chungking Mansions" apartment complex and "Midnight Express" restaurant, Chunking Express presents an uncompromising yet nostalgic view of Hong Kong in the final years of British control.

This film will be presented in (mostly) Cantonese, with English subtitles.

Film club is a space for cosy relaxation, fun and discussion. We'll also have pizza, blankets and comfy beanbags, snacks, and soft drinks!

This event is open only to University of Birmingham postgraduate researchers (PGR).
