Found a hole in your favourite jumper? A missing button on your favourite shirt? Find those trousers you love are just a bit too long? Or just love the make-do-and-mend aesthetic?

Come along to our workshop and learn the basic skills of clothing repair, creative ‘visible mending’ techniques to turn damage into a decorative feature, and simple tailoring to make your clothes fit perfectly.

We'll start with an hour's demonstration of a range of clothes mending techniques, where you'll be able to give these a go for yourself. For the rest of the time, our friendly facilitator will be able to offer you some 1-to-1 support to perfect your technique, or to help you mend something you already own.

Bring a garment that needs mending, or just come along and practice on ours. All other materials are provided! No previous sewing knowledge is needed; we’ll get you started!

Westmere House is situated on Edgbaston Park Road, around a 10 minute walk from central campus (Find it as G15 on the campus map). We look forward to seeing you!

Please note: Light refreshments will available at this event. Please bring along a mug if you have one! Additionally, attendees do not need to stay for the duration of the event - after the hour's demonstration, attendees may stay for as much of the practice and 1-to-1 support as they want.

This event is open only to University of Birmingham postgraduate taught students (PGTs) and postgraduate researchers (PGRs).
