- Dates
- Thursday 29 February 2024 (11:00-15:00)
This event is a workshop offered as part of the development process for Enquiring Minds: An interactive, problem-solving exhibition, a new exhibition on campus taking place 20-31 May 2024 for children aged 7-11, which spotlights the work of postgraduate researchers from across the University of Birmingham.
This workshop will train PGRs in planning interactive exhibits for young audiences, and offer the chance to take part in the Enquiring Minds exhibition. The session will be co-led by museum curator Dr Felicity McWilliams (Curator of Science and Industry at Birmingham Museums Trust), and heritage learning specialist Andrew Fowles (Learning & Access Manager at Birmingham Museums Trust). The 4-hour session will guide attendees through the process of developing exhibition content that is fun, educational, and accessible.
Why join us? As a result of the workshop, you will:
- Begin to develop industry-standard skills in communication and public engagement
- Learn how to frame and word academic research for a young audience
- Share your research with peers, external partners, and exhibition visitors
- Gain valuable experience in public engagement that can be included on your C.V.
PGRs who take part in the workshop will draft exhibit proposals for their research to be included in a new exhibition at the University of Birmingham. They will get feedback on their ideas from the experts leading the workshop.
Please note that the application process for Enquiring Minds is competitive, with a limited number of exhibit spaces available. The criteria for selection will include: quality and clarity of concept, feasibility of format and cost, and appropriateness for audience.
Please note that both dates are for the same workshop: you only need to attend one. We will also be offering an online version of this workshop - follow our EventBrite profile to hear first!
Lunch will be provided for attendees during a break in the middle of the workshop.
This event is open only to University of Birmingham postgraduate researchers (PGR).
