Postgrad Christmas Jumper Upcycling Workshop (In-Person)
- Location
- Westmere House (G15 on the Campus map)
- Dates
- Friday 8 December 2023 (14:00-16:00)
Does your favourite Christmas jumper have a hole in it? Do you have a Christmas party soon, but have nothing to wear? Or do you just love the make-do-and-mend aesthetic and want to learn more about living sustainably?
Come along to this festive workshop and learn the basic skills of clothing repair, creative ‘visible mending’ techniques to turn damage into a decorative feature, and simple tailoring to make your clothes fit perfectly. Not only will these skills help you to fight against fast fashion and be more sustainable, but they will help you to save some pennies during the rising cost of living.
Following a demonstration of a range of clothes mending techniques, you'll be able to put them to good use and repair and / or 'Christmas-ify' your own clothes, with support from our friendly facilitator! Please bring a garment that needs mending or that you would like to 'Christmas-ify', such as a jumper, skirt, or beanie hat. All other materials will be provided, and no previous sewing knowledge is needed!
Once you've repaired or 'Christmas-ified' your clothes, why not wear them at our upcoming Christmas parties? If you are a PGT, you can register for the PGT Christmas Party here, whereas if you are a PGR, you can register for the PGR Christmas Party here!
This event will take place at Westmere House, which is situated on Edgbaston Park Road, around a 10 minute walk from central campus (Find it as G15 on the campus map). We look forward to seeing you!
Please note: Light refreshments will available at this event. Please bring along a mug if you have one! Additionally, attendees do not need to stay for the duration of the event - after the demonstration, attendees may stay for as much of the event as they want to practice and receive some 1-to-1 support.
