What are some of the possible next steps in U.K. academia after a PhD?

Research Fellow, Research Associate, Postdoc, Associate Lecturer… what’s the difference?

What’s needed to progress to more permanent, senior academic positions like senior lecturer, and beyond?

These are just some of the questions we’ll be addressing in this panel discussion, featuring a range of UoB alumni now working in a variety of academic positions in different institutions across the U.K.

All at different stages of their academic careers, and drawn from a range of academic subjects, our panellists will share their tips and journeys so far.

Panellists:

  • Dr Mohammadreza Mohammadi: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Wind Farm Aerodynamics, Durham University
  • Dr Harpreet Sihre: Associate Lecturer (Teaching) in Applied Health Research, University College London
  • Dr Sarah Parker: Lecturer in English, Loughborough University
  • Dr Nino Kemoklidze: Senior Lecturer in International Relations, University of Chichester
  • Dr Alex Conner: Reader in Biomedical Science Communication, University of Birmingham

The panel is designed to help you:

  • Recognise a range of academic career trajectories
  • Identify key factors at play in academic promotions
  • Recognise key differences between types of academic roles and different types of universities
  • Gain a realistic view of the priorities of academic employers

The event will be run via Zoom and an attendance link will be sent to you upon registration, and in a reminder before the event.
