This powerful new documentary film gives voice to the experiences of sexual violence survivors in Kenya. The film portrays survivors’ resilience while highlighting individual and systemic struggles they face. It shows how community enables the journey from victim to survivor. The film is based on Rights for Time research, analysing the legal, social, and public health realities endured by sexual violence survivors in Kenya and globally. This research aims to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and Goal 16 (justice and inclusion) by gathering better evidence to prevent these crimes and protect survivors. A panel discussion following the screening will connect the film to this vital research. The panel includes the founder and Director of the WKF, Dr Wangu Kanja, project PI, Prof Heather Flowe, and Rights for Time research fellows Dr Sarah Rockowitz, Dr Kirstin Wagner, and Laura Stevens.
This event is taking place on the Edgbaston campus, 5.30-6.30pm (the documentary is around 30 minutes long followed by a panel + refreshments), please make your free booking here. This event welcome members of our community across the University, feel free to share with those who would be interested in this opportunity.
