The University Graduate School presents 'UGS Talks' - bringing UoB’s postgraduate community together with a range of thought-provoking talks and the chance to get to know each other, whatever your discipline might be.

 If you’re a postgraduate thinking ahead to where your postgraduate studies could take you, want to enhance your academic and social networks, or simply fancy a break from work with thought-provoking talks and conversation, this event is not to be missed!

Join UGS Talks for fascinating insights into life after postgraduate study. Introduced by University Directors for Postgraduates, Professor Michael Hand (PGR) and Dr. Graham Timmins (PGT), the event will be opened by Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education Professor Deborah Longworth.

Then hear inspiring talks from University of Birmingham postgraduate alumni, sharing the journeys of their careers: the highs and lows, the vital skills they learnt as postgraduates, and their advice to those graduating in the coming years. Read on for more information on our speakers:

Dr. Sandeep Sandhu, Head of Stakeholder Relationships at Innovate UK KTN, is a research & innovation expert. At Innovate UK KTN, Sandeep leads the development and growth of strategic and durable relationships with governments, industry and public sector bodies in the U.K. and internationally. Sandeep began her career after completing a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Birmingham. Learn more at her LinkedIn page.

Alethea Fuller is Deputy Chief Executive, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, one of the most senior black women in policing governance and an expert in strategic commissioning, restorative justice, victim services, local government, and public policy. Her current role includes assisting the Police and Crime Commissioner, fostering collaboration and partnership activity with statutory and voluntary bodies across the West Midlands and nationally. Alethea graduated from University of Birmingham with a Masters in Public Management and Leadership in 2017, after studying part-time alongside her work. Learn more at her LinkedIn Page.
