Supervising PGRs
Supervising PGRs is a two and a half hour training course for new PGR supervisors and established PGR supervisors new to the University of Birmingham.
The aims of the course are to ensure that participants:
- are familiar with University Regulations and Codes of Practice relating to PGR supervision
- understand the role and responsibilities of the supervisor
- are well-placed to support PGRs throughout the process of designing, conducting and writing up their research
- have strategies for dealing with common problems in PGR supervision
- are able to signpost and access further information as required
The course will cover:
- key points in the PGR journey, from application and admission through to submission and examination
- support services and training opportunities available to PGRs
- the research ethics review process
- University Codes of Practice and Regulations relating to PGR supervision
- the role and responsibilities of the supervisor
- mental health awareness
Note that this course is specifically for new supervisors and supervisors new to the University.
Supervisor refresher training
