PGT Knowledge Exchange Pathway Project

Knowledge Exchange

Please note that this module is no longer available.

The Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Knowledge Exchange Pathway (KEP) Project aims to diversify the student experience by offering students an alternative to the traditional dissertation. Students will gain experience of working with our External Partners, whilst applying and developing key skills and knowledge that will support them to excel in their subsequent careers. Students will work in inter-disciplinary teams on real-life projects for our External Partners. Students will gain key employability skills (e.g. managing a project, working as part of a team), while partners will benefit from the original insights and innovative solutions our students can offer.

Previous Years' Partners

Bristol Myers Squibb

Bristol Myers Squibb is a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases.

Collaborations across sectors of healthcare and disciplines are key in the development of global health programs and ultimately are likely to lead to faster and sustainable interventions in LMICs.  The project involves researching and capturing an overview of the global health work of the leading institutions that may be useful to inform potential collaborations between sectors.

Birmingham City Council

Birmingham is a place with an impressive past and its citizens deserve an impressive future.

Birmingham is going through a renaissance, seeing tremendous growth and regeneration. The city is hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games, but this is just the start. The Games is a stepping stone. We also have HS2 and a significant economic growth agenda in the West Midlands.

Birmingham City Council is very much on a journey of improvement.  We are getting the council’s finances back on track and we will continue to work with partners and peers on this, as we are determined to return Birmingham to its rightful place within the local government family.

HSBC

HSBC is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations. Our network covers 64 countries and territories in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, North America and Latin America.

Our purpose – Opening up a world of opportunity – explains why we exist. We’re here to use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to open up new kinds of opportunity for our customers. We’re bringing together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

Listed on the London, Hong Kong, New York and Bermuda stock exchanges, shares in HSBC Holdings plc are held by around 194,000 shareholders in 130 countries and territories.

Santorini Scientific

Santorini Scientific is start-up company with the mission of improving quality of life for heart transplant patients. We aim to achieve this by improving graft tolerance whilst reducing, and eventually eliminating, the need for immunosuppressant drugs. We are currently investing in research into three key areas; tissue and organ bioprinting, predicting and detecting rejection and tolerogenic therapy.

Citizens UK

Citizens UK Birmingham is an independent community organising alliance of 29 member faith, education, community, social enterprise and trade union institutions. Our mission is to develop local leaders, strengthen local organisations which are the lifeblood of their communities and make change.

Our member communities are deeply rooted in their local areas. These schools, universities, churches, mosques, synagogues, parent groups, health trusts, charities and unions, are important civic institutions which connect every day to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

Through the method of Community Organising we enable communities and local leaders to develop their voice and come together with the power and strategy to make real change.

This leads to hundreds of neighbourhood improvements - from zebra crossings outside primary schools to reopening renovated public toilets in cemeteries.

And our work has led to some of the biggest campaign impacts in the UK, such as the Living Wage with its £1.3 billion of wages won for low-paid workers, or successful campaigns to persuade the Government to stop exploitative lending by capping the cost of credit; or introducing a law to prevent the detention of children for immigration purposes.
