 Cengage Gale collections

  • Archives of Sexuality and Gender: Sex and Sexuality, Sixteenth to Twentieth Century contains over 5,000 monographs that provide context to the twentieth-century materials included in Parts I and II. The digitization of this collection provides perspectives on history, society and changing views of sexuality. The collection examines patterns of fertility and sexual practice, prostitution, religion and sexuality, the medical and legal construction of sexualities, the rise of sexology, and more.
  • British Literary Manuscripts Online: Medieval and Renaissance presents facsimile images of literary manuscripts, including saints’ lives, chronicles, poetry, and plays. The manuscripts in the collection come from some of the major manuscript collections for the study of the medieval and Renaissance periods, such as the British Library Additional, Cotton, and Folger Shakespeare Library collections. Part Two: Medieval and Renaissance presents a range of literary manuscripts, letters, poems, stories, plays, chronicles, religious writings, and other materials from roughly 1120 to 1660.
  • U.S. Declassified Documents Online provides access to a broad range of previously classified federal records spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The collection brings together documents from all the presidential libraries and numerous executive agencies in a single, easily searchable database. Materials cover virtually every significant foreign policy development and international crisis, from the years leading up to the First World War through to the end of the Cold War. 

Drama Online updates

  • Core Collection - Annual Update 2025 introduces new writers alongside the most iconic names in playwriting history, providing contextual and critical background through scholarly works and practical guides. The resource combines available playtext content and scholarly publications with filmed live performances, film adaptations, and audio plays.
  • Theatre and Performance History Collection comprises original research and curated field-defining articles that illuminate, analyse and re-evaluate the contribution of key theatre artists from North America and Europe. The collection also offers new readings in theatre history, theory, practice and legacy spanning the last century, and a significant collection of criticism on modern and world drama and on theories of performance from across the world.

Both these collections contain additional Methuen titles as requested by the Drama department.

 Adam Matthew collections

  • AM Scholar is a vast repository of digital primary source collections drawn from Adam Matthew’s thirty-year microfilm backlist. The series features collections and content covering a broad range of topics, from Renaissance literature to twentieth century global politics.
  • Literary Manuscripts Berg is drawn from the nineteenth century holdings of the Henry W. and Albert A. Berg Collection of English and American Literature at the New York Public Library. While the holdings of the Berg extend from 1480 to the present day, its most extensive holdings date from the nineteenth century.
  • Nineteenth Century Literary Society is drawn from the historic John Murray Archive. From book history to travel writing, politics to poetry, this newly digitised resource introduces an unparalleled repository for nineteenth century culture and the literary luminaries who shaped it.

Art History and Architecture Collection
