What's it really like living at The Vale?
Ever wondered what it’s actually like to live at Tennis Courts in The Vale Village? We caught up with one of our residents who lived at Tennis Courts last year to get the inside scoop, from favourite hangout spots to unforgettable memories. Here’s what they had to say…
Q: What initially made you want to live at Tennis Courts?
A: I picked Tennis Courts because it was super close to my Presessional English courses. Plus, having a bus stop nearby made getting around really easy!
Q: Is there anything you wish you’d known before moving in?
A: I wish I’d known how easy it would be to find food nearby. There are convenience stores and shops around, but I didn’t realise how accessible they were at first. It was really great in that first week to explore and get to know my surroundings. I would recommend that to anyone moving in: it pays to get to know your surroundings quickly.
Q: What was your favourite thing about living at Tennis Courts?
A: Definitely how close it was to my classes and how walkable everything was. I also loved all the student activities and being near the park, it was perfect for exercising and relaxing outdoors.
Q: Why should students choose The Vale?
A: It’s super convenient, the people are friendly, and the staff are always helpful. It’s a great place to settle in and feel supported, I’m really happy I chose to live here last year.
Q: Where was your go-to spot to relax or hang out with friends?
A: The park at Vale Village! I spend loads of time there with friends, eating, exercising, and just soaking up the good atmosphere.
Q: Was it easy to make friends?
A: Yes! Everyone was so kind. We joined activities organised by the accommodation and we even cooked together, which allowed us to connect in the first few weeks. Language barriers didn’t matter because everyone made an effort.

Q: Can you share a memorable moment from your time at there?
A: One of the best moments was when Student Living organised an outdoor movie night. There were food trucks and donuts, which were delicious. It was such a fun evening, I would definitely do it again if I had the chance.
Q: What would you say to someone thinking about living at Tennis Courts?
A: Don’t hesitate! It’s close to classes, safe, has a great community with lots of friends to meet. The green spaces and bus access are a bonus too, come and join the Tennis Courts family.

Q: How do you find living at Bournbrook in Selly Oak this year?
A: Tennis Courts felt like a warm, social home away from home, and I could spend lots of time with friends whilst also learning to manage my time well. Bournbrook so far this year, I would say is more private - like a condo with ensuites, which is great.
