Does replying to my invitation guarantee that I will be able to graduate?

No, it does not. It is important to remember that confirming your graduation preference does not confirm the successful completion of your degree, nor should it be taken as proof that you are, or will be, eligible to graduate.

Only students graduating from the University of Birmingham with a Degree of the University listed under Ordinance 4.1.1 who meet the terms of that degree will be eligible to attend a Degree Congregation. Some students will receive this email inviting them to attend but will not be eligible to graduate by the time of the ceremony (if for example you have not yet submitted your dissertation, you have not paid all of your tuition fees, or you are re-sitting any examinations). This is particularly common for research students whose examination (viva) and correction processes can vary considerably.

You will be able to access your official progress and examination results in the Student Gateway by clicking on 'Exam Marks and Progress Decisions - End of Year Marks' link under the ‘Exams and Assessments’ heading of the Student Gateway. Please note that there are additional requirements for research students. You can find out more by reading our Terms and Conditions.
