3 Minute Thesis 2026: Finalists Announced

The annual University of Birmingham Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition officially launched this March. This year saw the highest number of entries to date, and the semi-finals on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 March saw thirty-six outstanding doctoral researchers compete to be a 2026 Finalist! In just three minutes and with only one slide, each finalist presented their innovative research 3MT celebrates a researcher’s ability to communicate and translate complex academic ideas and discoveries to non-specialist audiences.

The 2026 semi-final presentations were of an exceptionally high standard, spanning disciplines and specialisations from across all five of the University’s colleges,

The 3MT Finals will take place on Wednesday 25 March 3:00- 5:00pm in Vaughan Jeffreys LR 135. All staff and students are invited to attend and support the competitors as they communicate the core of their doctoral research in just three minutes. Complimentary cake will be available during the event.
