University of Birmingham PhD Researcher Yuxuan Wu is Vitae Three Minute Thesis Competition Finalist
The University of Birmingham Doctoral School is proud to announce that PhD researcher Yuxuan Wu has been shortlisted as a Vitae Three Minute Thesis (3MT) finalist, a national competition that challenges doctoral candidates to present their research in just three minutes
After winning our University of Birmingham 3MT competition in June 2025, Yuxuan was nominated to represent the University at the national level. Organised annually by Vitae, 3MT celebrates a researchers ability to communicate complex academic ideas in a clear and engaging way to non-specialist audiences. Participants must distil years of research into a concise and compelling presentation, demonstrating both clarity of thought and impact of research. 3MT is highly competitive, attracting entries from leading universities across the UK. Yuxuan, based in the University Business School, delivered a presentation titled ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future of Work – an example from medical imaging’, which explored how AI is transforming NHS radiology; not by replacing radiologists, but by working in partnership to overcome workforce shortages and improve patient care. Her findings challenge common fears of AI, instead highlighting its potential to empower radiologists and improve healthcare delivery. Her engaging delivery and ability to translate technical concepts into accessible language thoroughly impressed the judging panel, securing her place among the Vitae 3MT finalists.
The final will be streamed live on Wednesday 1 October 2025 and the winners will then be announced Friday 3 October 2025.
