Welcome to our 2nd Cohort of 125th Anniversary Scholars!

Welcome to our 2nd cohort of 125th Anniversary Scholars!

Last week the University Doctoral School (UDS) had the pleasure of welcoming our second cohort of 125th Anniversary Scholars. The 125th Anniversary Scholarship was launched in 2024 to support Black British researchers pursuing doctoral degrees at the University of Birmingham.

The scholarship offers comprehensive support for Black British postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across all five Colleges, including full tuition coverage and an annual stipend. Through supporting our Scholars, the University and University Doctoral School strive to create an inclusive research culture and community on campus.

Our first intake of scholars are now starting their second year and continue to deliver innovative research and achieve success within and beyond the University. You can hear from some of our Scholars at this year’s 'Me In 3' 125th Anniversary Scholars event as part of Black History Month 2025. This event will see our Scholars sharing their reflections on the last year within their research and academic career. This is an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into the diverse experiences of our PGRs, with attendees able to ask questions and engage directly with our 125th Scholars.

We wish our new cohort of Scholars many congratulations and the best of luck with their research projects. We cannot wait to see the amazing work they go on to achieve. Our Scholars are the future of research, and we are honoured to be able to play a part in their research journey.
