University of Birmingham Research and Impact Awards
The University’s Research and Impact Awards celebrate colleagues’ contributions to research excellence. They include an award which recognises the Exceptional Research Contribution of Doctoral Researchers. This award is for Doctoral Researchers who have actively enhanced their research group, School or College. In this category, there will be one winner per college so five across the University in total.

Who Can Apply?
Nominations are open to all University of Birmingham researchers and professional services staff involved in research across both the Edgbaston and Dubai campuses who have been employed by the University for at least 12 months. There are 12 categories in total; eight focused on research and four focused on research impact. Some categories will have one winner per college. One of these categories is specifically dedicated to PGRs pursuing doctorate degrees.

Nominations are now open and close on Tuesday 4 November at 23:59.
All nominations should be submitted via the online nomination form. You can nominate yourself and others.
All nominations need to:

- Include the email address of the person you are nominating. For Team nominations this should be the email address of the Principal Investigator or Project Lead.
- Include supporting evidence with references/links that support the nomination.
- Confirm that any third parties referenced are aware of the nomination and happy to be contacted in relation to the nomination and the Awards.
Additional guidance for Exceptional Research Contribution of Doctoral Researchers Award

Nominees should:

- Be a registered doctoral researcher who has passed their first formal annual review and should not have submitted their thesis before the Awards on Thursday 26 March.
- Demonstrate an exceptional and sustained contribution to the research culture, reputation, and/or environment of their research group, School, or College.
- Champion initiatives that go beyond their own research to enhance the wider academic community and support a vibrant, inclusive, and collegial research culture.
- Include evidence of the nominee’s impact on their research environment, including examples of activities, collaborations, and outcomes that reflect their commitment to enhancing the research community.
Nominees could:

- Show leadership through mentoring, organising events, or facilitating interdisciplinary engagement.
- Demonstrate innovative and creative thinking in the establishment of new projects, networks or events.
- Value the building of inclusive research communities.
- Contribute to the visibility, quality and impact of research within and beyond the University.
This award specific criteria is in addition to the general nomination criteria detailed above.
