In May 2020 Dr Emma Robinson was appointed as the Academic Registrar, responsible for leadership of the Professional Services teams that together support the student and academic experience across the University. This includes the teams in Academic Services (including Student Services; Registry & Academic Affairs; Library; Careers; Innovation & Development; and Birmingham international Academy) and the diverse teams in our five academic Colleges. Emma plays a pivotal role in the University’s response to the external environment, contributing to the development and implementation of academic-facing policy, and linking this policy to enhanced service delivery.
Emma joined the University in 2004 as Research Manager at the Medical School, followed by progression to Head of Research & Knowledge Transfer for the College of Medical & Dental Sciences and secondment to HEFCE to support the RAE in 2008, before appointment as College Director of Operations in January 2010. Emma supported the development of Birmingham Health Partners (BHP) and was also Chief Operating Officer for BHP. Emma’s academic background includes a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences, PhD in Molecular Microbiology and postdoc positions at the University of Durham. Subsequent appointments in the biotech industry and for the Medical Research Council in Oxford confirmed her move out of the laboratory into an academic management role.
