Registration

You must complete your registration prior to commencing your research programme and you are then required to register online at the beginning of each academic year until you have completed your programme of study. For further information on registration please see regulation 5.3 on Admission and Registration available from the Regulations webpages.

A step by step guide to registration can be found on the registration pages.

Induction

Your School/Department will organise a local induction for you at the beginning of your studies.

For information on how Research Student Administration (RSA) can assist you throughout your studies and details of the services we offer, please watch the RSA PGR induction video. Please note that there have been a number of changes since this video was recorded:

  • Any reference to Tier 4 is now known as the student route visa.
  • Students are now required to report their return from authorised absence in person. Please see the authorised absence webpages for further details
  • Some of the staff and structures within RSA have changed. Please see the above for the current RSA structure.

PGR holiday

PGRs are expected to be engaged with their studies throughout the whole academic year and are not subject to normal University term dates.

PGRs may however, with the prior approval of their supervisor(s), take up to 8 weeks holiday in each academic year, inclusive of public holidays. Please note that this is calculated on a pro-rata basis where a PGR's registration is for less than an academic year (i.e. those who start part-way through an academic year). The PGR academic year runs from 1 October to 30 September the following year.

If you are an international student on a Tier 4 visa, you must apply for authorised absence in order to take holiday from your studies. Please see the authorised absence webpages for further information.
