The ISAS offer advice and guidance to all international students who are currently studying at the University of Birmingham and to recent graduates.

Before you contact us, check our web pages to see whether there is any information that answers your query. If you are unclear about anything we have covered on our web site, we are happy to answer your questions.

The ISAS office will be closing on Thursday 22 December 2016 and will be unable to respond to any queries until after Wednesday 4 January 2017.

Should you receive a Refusal Notice from the Home Office in relation to your visa application, you will require urgent advice and guidance. You may wish to consult a legal representative or solicitor during the University closed period.

Please be reassured that we aim to resolve all urgent student queries before the University closes on 22 December 2016 and encourage you to use our intranet pages for further information about your visa and immigration matters.

Contact the University Security Services, who will be open 24 hours a day.

Who should I contact for immigration advice while the University is closed for Christmas?

In the event that you require urgent immigration advice over the holiday period, you may wish to contact independent legal experts. Whilst ISAS does not facilitate any recommendation please refer to the links below.

For any non-urgent queries we would be grateful if you could await a response from us in January 2017, and we wish you well for the Christmas holidays.

Our opening hours:

  • Mondays to Thursdays: 9:00 - 17:00
  • Fridays: 9:00 - 16:00 
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays: Closed


The ISAS use an online enquiry system which enables us to communicate with staff and students and is much more interactive than an email address. 

If your query relates to immigration, please attach a scanned copy of your current visa if you are able to, so that we can advise you further. If you cannot attach a copy of your visa, please tell us what type of visa you have, when it was issued and when it is due to expire.

We can support students who are already at the University or who will join us shortly.

You can call the ISAS to discuss your situation. We are unable to give immigration advice over the phone, but we can take your information and assess how we can support you.

Booking an appointment

As part of our service we offer free and confidential appointments on immigration and other related issues to University of Birmingham students.

Please note we are not able to check your visa application documents during an appointment as we have dedicated workshops for this purpose.

Appointments are currently held on Mondays at Room 120, Priorsfield Building (campus map reference G18)

Appointments must be booked in advance.  Dates and times are advertised on our appointments pages

Initial appointments are 10 minutes in duration.  In this time the advisor will listen to your enquiry and provide you with relevant information and advice.

ISAS Advisors may not be able to answer some more complicated questions at the appointment as time is limited and may refer your enquiry to a senior advisor.  If this happens you will be informed and provided a new date and time for your follow up appointment.
