The Black Voices Student Campaign (BVC), which aims to provide Black students at the University of Birmingham with a platform to discuss and campaign on the issues that impact on their lives, recently organised a ‘Bake Off’ competition in the Chaplaincy on the 22 February 18:00-20:30. The collaboration included three members from the Race Equality Staff Network (including judging duties!) – Alex Ferranti, Avril Rogers, and Beverley Maynard, and a great time was had by all.
The ‘Bake Off’ teams managed to produce some fantastic creations, including cakes containing bananas, carrots and coconut complemented by a range of delicious spices which delighted the taste buds. Avril of course, added a bit of tension shouting the time remaining - “only two minutes left” - which got the teams almost spinning in a panic!
Amira Campbell, leader for the BVC and her team put together a great event and led a lively discussion on ‘imposter syndrome’. The REN will happily collaborate with the BVC in the near future.
