Some advice on the costs involved in developing mobile apps in addition to the developer time/resource for building the app.
If releasing an app that will be a core University app then this needs to be approved by the Mobile App Steering Group and the following may be required:
- Mac Mini (an Apple device is required to develop iOS apps) – approximately £500
- App server may be required depending on app functionality – contact your relevant IT manager for a quote.

If releasing an app that is an innovation/special interest app you may need to budget for:
- Apple developer license - $99 per year
- Apple developer enterprise licence - $299 per year (for developing and distributing in-house iOS apps)
- Windows developer licence – $99 per year
- Google developer licence – $25 one-off registration fee
- Blackberry World developer licence - free
