Jury Service

If you are selected for jury service, you should tell your line manager or Institute Lead as soon as you know the dates you will be required to attend. If there are genuine business reasons why your manager cannot let you attend jury service on the given dates, this is a valid reason to postpone and you should seek to be excused from or to defer your jury service. The court should also send you a form 5223 (loss of earnings certificate). You should give this to the payroll office where they will complete the form and return it to you to take to the court. The court will pay you based on the information on the form. When you receive the money from the court, simply notify payroll and the amount will be deducted from your pay. Further guidance on time off for public duties can be found on the HR intranet pages.
