AHRC FinCris holds final dissemination event: 'Financial Reform after the Crisis'
On 3rd February 2016 the AHRC FinCris project (www.fincris.net) held its final dissemination event in Brussels (http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/business/events/2016/february/financial-reform-after-the-crisis.aspx) on: ‘Financial Reform after the Crisis: Promoting stability, fair taxation, ethics and financial inclusion’.
‘FinCris’ was an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded project involving collaboration between philosophers (led by PI Prof. Tom Sorrel, University of Warwick , formerly Birmingham); financial economists (Andy Mullineux (Co-I) and Dr. Sajid Chaudhry, Finance Department, Birmingham Business School ; and social policy academics (led by Co-I Prof. Karen Rowlingson, CoSS). It sought to enlarge understanding of the 2007-9 financial crisis and the ethical issues it raised for the public, regulators and practitioners. It addressed the issue of who bears responsibility for what went wrong and considers what actions might be taken to prevent a recurrence.
The project involved three work streams: ethical responsibilities; taxing banks fairly; and responsible lending and borrowing. It concluded with three dissemination events: in June 2015 (in Warwick’s offices in ‘The Shard’ in London); in September 2015 in New York (hosted by collaborators from NYU); and in Brussels in February 2016. Further information can be found on www.fincris.net and outputs are to be reported on ‘Researchfish’.
