Facilities Update

You may recall we updated you in the May/June Newsletter regarding the Alan Walters Building (AWB), the forthcoming Managed Print Device roll-out, and progress regarding post-Marketing moves University House office usage.  In this edition of the newsletter we have further updates relating to all three, in addition to information regarding the School’s ‘emergency box.’

School Facilities Manager

However, firstly, we’d like to extend our thanks to Donna Willmetts (College Facilities Manager). Donna has recently returned to her ‘day-job’, having dedicated three days a week since Christmas to working in the School to ensure continuity regarding School facilities activities, and in particular preparation for AWB coming on stream and planning for, and oversight of, the moves by colleagues in CRÈME, City-REDI and Marketing to Ash House.

Laura Harris is now in post – in room G34, University House. Please call by and say hello when you get chance. You can read more about Laura in the new staff profiles section of this edition of the newsletter.

Alan Walters Building

As soon as a delivery date for furniture is confirmed move dates for Professional Services colleagues migrating to AWB can be finalised.

Moves are still anticipated to be in mid-August, with a full catering-offer from Monday 5th September; meaning the building will be fully operational for the start of the new term.

University House

Regarding the use of vacated office space in University House following the migration of colleagues to Ash House, discussions with key stakeholders are now at an advanced stage. The moves present a significant opportunity to recalibrate Departmental distribution in the Building and potentially reduce the reliance on shared office space by some senior colleagues. We’ll provide full details regarding proposals in the next newsletter.

One move that has already been agreed is that of the School Hub and Administration Team. With the exception of Sandra McCalla and Danielle Rowe who will remain in room 141 and Pam Warrington who will divide her time between JG Smith Building and Ash House, colleagues from the team will relocate from rooms 138 and 145 into room 114 of University House.  Michele Donovon will continue to divide her time between room 114 and JG Smith Building.  It is hoped the School Hub team will be able to move into their new home in early September once colleagues from the MBA Programme Team have relocated to AWB.

Emergency box

All Schools now have an ‘emergency box’ in the unlikely event that staff are locked-in the building during an emergency situation. Each box contains essential items such as a first aid kit, thermal blankets, batteries, water container, barrier tape, torch, multi-plug extension lead, adhesive tape, cable ties, note books, black bags, and scissors. The Business School emergency box will be located underneath the Reception desk for easy access.

Managed Print Service – Roll-out

To ensure adequate User Acceptance Testing there will be a slight delay in the initial deployment of the multifunctional printing devices which were scheduled to arrive and be installed over the next two weeks in Ash House and University House.

Devices in the Business School will be delivered as planned (Ash House on 29/07/2016 and University House on29/07/2016 & 01/08/2016), but will not be installed or configured.  In University House devices will initially be stored in 232 UH. In Ash House new devices will be delivered to their planned locations as there are no legacy devices to be removed.

A communication will follow shortly to confirm the timescales for when devices will be configured and made available, and the status of training. This means we will continue to use our existing devices.

In the meantime, it is recommended that colleagues visit Security for a replacement ID card if their current card is over 10 years old or is damaged in any way. This way you will be ready immediately to begin using the devices once they are fully operational.

Trudy Smith (T.J.Smith@bham.ac.uk 0121 414 5015) will be the College point of contact for any advice or guidance once the machines have been installed.
