Quick colleague catch-up
You may recall we mentioned in last month’s newsletter that Jenny Brookes (School Hub Assistant) and Laura Harris (Facilities Manager) would be starting in the School on 27th June and 4th July respectively.
If you haven’t already I’m sure you’ll have an opportunity to meet Laura and Jenny in the near future, but in the mean-time they’ve kindly agreed to share with you a little information about themselves:
Laura Harris – Facilities Manager
Prior to working at Birmingham Business School…I have been working at Warwick Business School in the role of Buildings & Facilities Manager for the past 18 months, with responsibility for the two campus buildings and the space in the Shard, London.
My role at Birmingham Business School is…Facilities & Support Services Manager; I’ll be starting at BBS on the 4th July so really looking forward to my new role.
In my spare time I…like to clean my car meticulously, and spend lots of time admiring it! I’m a bit of a petrol-head so like to take my car to various shows and enthusiast meets throughout the year. I enjoy tinkering about with it as much as I can. Unfortunately, it’ll become a bit of a ‘garage queen’ once I start my new role as I’ll be using something a little more practical and economical for the commute!
Aside from my obsession with cars I have two Dalmatians who keep me very busy, so I enjoy taking them for long walks and trips to the beach.
I’m pursuing a self-build home which I hope to be able to start building in around 12- months; I’m doing lots of research and attending self-build events and shows.
My proudest moment or achievement is…being a petrol-head it would have to be buying my first car at 18; I’d been working since the age of 15 whilst at school and saving money to enable me to buy my own car.
My favourite book or current read is…I’m currently studying for a BIFM Level 5 Diploma in Facilities Management, so I’m spending lots of time reading and researching material for the course, which means I don’t have much time for any other reading. I started reading Guy Martin’s autobiography but still haven’t got round to finishing it yet!
My earliest memory is…Baking jam tarts with my Mum in the kitchen; I was always baking these when I was little!
If I could only ever watch three films ever again, they would be…’Closer to the Edge’ which is a documentary film about the riders of the Isle of Man TT, ‘Rush’ about the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda in F1, and finally ‘Road’; another documentary film about motorcycle road racing. I do watch non-car/bike films too!
Jenny Brookes – School Hub Assistant
Prior to working at Birmingham Business School…I worked at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
My role at Birmingham Business School is…To provide administrative assistance and support to the School Hub Manager, Team Leader, Academic Support Administrators and the PA’s within the School Hub to deliver a comprehensive administrative and support service across a range of Departmental and School processes and functions.
In my spare time I…Play netball and tennis. I also read a lot and regularly go shopping and out for meals with my friends.
My proudest moment or achievement is…Living in and traveling around America for 4 months.
My favourite book or current read is…I have too many favourite books to name one, but anything supernatural that captures my imagination, but is not too scary!
My earliest memory is…My birthday one year when I had a chocolate cake with the letter J on made with smarties.
If I could only ever watch three films ever again, they would be…It changes all the time but at the moment: 10 Things I Hate About You, Zombieland, Red.
