MSc International Business welcomes alumni engagement

The Business School’s Alumni Relations and Corporate Relations have had great success in assisting Dr. Mehmet Oktemgil, Director of the MSc International Business, in sourcing alumni as guest speakers on the MSc Programme. This has been accomplished as part of the Curriculum Lecture Initiative which has been running for few years.

Our alumnus, Rupert Lyle (Barclays) gave a guest lecture on the International Business Finance and Strategy module on 17 February, and he will be returning to give a second guest lecture on 10 March. On the International Business Strategy module, our alumni David Kettle (Barclays) and Joe Kibbler (Icarus.com) both spoke to the cohort on 22 February. Also lined up for the upcoming weeks are Liljia Pressel (Deutsche Bank) with Paul Szumilewicz from (HSBC) on 8 March, who will speak on International Business Strategy module; and representatives from Mars Company will be giving a presentation on 22 March 2017.

Dr Oktemgil commented on the positive reception of the students to our alumni speakers, and their engagement throughout the lecture in the form of questions. Dr Oktemgil believes that “this highlights the importance of industry links for our students” and that the Curriculum Lecture Initiative might be helpful in “addressing this gap in our programmes”.

The Alumni Relations Team are always happy to facilitate the contribution of alumni to the curriculum, or similar initiatives, and can be contacted by email, or telephone (0121 414 4966).
