Eligibility
Disabilty
At the University, you could be considered for reasonable exam adjustments if you have:
- Mental health difficulties (lasting or expected to last longer than 12 months).
- Autism / Asperger’s syndrome.
- Specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
- Long term health conditions.
- Physical or sensory disabilities.
A person is defined as being disabled under the Equality Act if:
- they have a physical or mental impairment
- the impairment has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
Even if you do not consider yourself to be disabled, you can still get support if you match one of the criteria above.
Temporary illness or injury
If you have a temporary illness or injury, such as a break, sprain or virus, please visit our 'Temporary illness or injury' intranet page to find out how to apply for alternative exam arrangements.
The application process
To apply you will need to register with the Disability Support Service and provide them with medical evidence.
You can contact the disability service by emailing disability@contacts.bham.ac.uk or calling 0121 414 5130.
The Disability Support Service will assess your medical evidence and invite you to a consultation. After the consultation, a Reasonable Adjustment Plan (RAP), previously known as the Student Support Agreement (SSA), will be produced. It will include the details of the exam adjustments you require. The exam office will then put these requirements in place.
Please contact the Disability Support Service as soon as possible, as we cannot guarantee your adjustments will be put in place if you are assessed after the deadline.
Types of reasonable adjustments
For information about the different types of arrangements we can put in place, please visit the 'Types of reasonable exam adjustments' intranet page.
