Capgemini Community Challenge 2024 (Video transcript)

The highlight of the week so far has been speaking to Glenn from Telford Maker Space and seeing his passions for the charity. It really made my team feel emotionally invested and really excited to work with him. It made the charity experience a lot more real, and it was lovely to meet everyone involved.

From this week, I’m taking away the importance of being assertive. So if you want something done, or if you want someone’s help or to connect with someone, just do it. And if you have a great idea, just say it. The confidence to just be able to do things, the confidence to be able to talk to people and approach people to ask for help if I need it, and if I have an idea, to just say it.

The fact that consulting is not just about the problem and the solution, it’s about the client relationship as well and staying in contact throughout the week. I can definitely build a career in consulting. Till this time, I think I was thinking about a future in software engineering or something related to engineering. But now that I look at consulting and I look at the clients that we’ve had and how happy we’ve made them through our research and feedback, I think there’s definitely scope for me to get into consulting and do great in it.

I think the biggest impact that I will make for the client this week is finding him a location, which was one of their key objectives, and this is almost finalised. So this will make a huge difference in running their charity. The biggest impact I think my team made for the client this week was reigniting his passion for the charity and that there is still hope for its success.

The biggest impact I think we will make for the client this week is providing them with a digital strategy to help them understand a bit more how young people think. Hopefully, in a few months’ time, they’ll have a larger audience full of young people. The biggest impact that my team has made for the client this week is the website analysis, the website mock-up, and the social media analysis because their online presence isn’t great. We’re hoping to build that, and with that, the funds will come, hopefully.

My advice for someone who’s applying for the community challenge next year is to be really passionate and show how much you care and are willing to help other people. Embrace everything with positivity, as all the staff and the mentors here are really positive, and it’s the best way to engage for everyone. Even if you feel you don’t have any experience or expertise to contribute, you’ll be surprised by the end of the week how much work and ideas will originate from you.

You don’t know how much the experience will help you until you’re here. I think I applied at the very last minute, and I am so grateful that I did. I’ve learned so much. Please apply, don’t just sit back and feel like “because consulting is not for me, I shouldn’t be applying.” Everyone deserves to have an opportunity to be in such an environment once in a lifetime, and I think you should grab it.
