The International Student Team (IST) provides advice and guidance to current and prospective international students.  Our expertise covers many areas of student immigration including visas, right to study and how to extend your Student visa.

The IST reception is open at the Aston Webb Student Hub as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 09:00- 17:00
  • Wednesday: 10:00 - 17:00

We are closed on weekends, Bank Holidays and University closed days.

We have prepared a wide range of FAQs on all topics relating to student visas and immigration. You can use the FAQs to submit an online enquiry, by clicking 'Contact Us' at the bottom of the immigration related FAQ webpage. You can attach files by using this online form. Your form will be send to the team best placed to answer your query. You will receive a response by email. It would be helpful if you send us a share code with your enquiry so that we can check you eVisa.

We offer a bespoke triage service on Student immigration matters to University of Birmingham students.

The IST triage service provides a range of personalised support for students. Depending on your situation, this may include online advice and guidance or an individual appointment with an adviser.

Once you have completed the online enquiry form, your enquiry will be reviewed by an IST adviser who will be in contact with you by email.

If you are a continuing student and you need further time for your studies, you can make a CAS Request to the IST for visa extension purposes.

Please read Step 1 carefully about preparing your required visa documentation. Then follow to Step 2 to start the online form for submitting a CAS Request, along with uploading your supporting documentation.

In case of an emergency e.g. lost passport, please check our information on reporting this to the appropriate authorities.

You can seek independent immigration advice on your matter, this is your personal choice.  If you choose to seek advice, you should do so before any visa expiry dates and any deadlines to ensure that your matter is addressed in a timely manner.  You would normally expect to book an appointment to see a legal representative and there is usually a charge for this service which you will be responsible for paying and therefore we suggest checking fees and costs before instructing an adviser.
