Red Heat Alert issued: what you need to know
The UK Health Security Agency has issued a Red Heat-Health Alert for the West Midlands this week as temperatures are expected to rise significantly across the region.
Forecasts indicate that temperatures in Birmingham could exceed 30°C, with highs of 33–34°C in some areas.
If you’re travelling to campus, please be aware that hot weather can affect public transport services such as rail travel. Please check with your train service provider before travelling and allow extra time for your journey.
Campus remains fully open and all activities are continuing as planned, including the final week of UoB Xtra. Check out what’s on.
If you’re spending time on campus during the hot weather, remember to:
- Stay hydrated
- Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
- Use sunscreen and seek shade when outdoors
- Avoid spending long periods in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day
- Look out for others who may be affected by the heat
The NHS has published guidance on staying safe during heatwaves, including advice on keeping cool and recognising the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Please take care during the period of extreme heat and keep an eye on weather and travel updates throughout the week.
