Langar is back on campus this February
Langar on Campus is a long-standing tradition that the Sikh Society has proudly organised for over 20 years. It represents the Sikh practice of Langar — the provision of free, simple meals for all, regardless of background, faith, or identity.
Join on Monday 2 February, 11:00 – 15:00 in the Marquee next to Old Joe to celerate this year.
The society aim to serve over 2,000 people, making Langar on Campus one of the largest student-led events on campus. Beyond providing free food, the event serves as an educational and cultural opportunity, helping attendees gain a deeper understanding of Sikh principles and fostering inclusivity across the University.

What is Langar?
In Sikhism, Langar is a community kitchen that offers free vegetarian food to anyone, regardless of social class, gender or religion.
This idea started with Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, who believed in the oneness of humanity. The practice of Langar demonstrates these values of equality and kindness.
Langar is served daily in every Gurdwara (a Sikh temple) around the world, as well as in the community through the efforts of volunteers. It’s an important part of worship for Sikhs who help by cooking, cleaning, or serving.
Open to all, regardless of faith or belief, you can enjoy a free vegetarian dish with vegan options consisting of lentil soup, vegetable curry and chapatis (flat bread) all freshly prepared locally in Birmingham.
This is also a great opportunity to learn more about the Sikh faith, and to meet members of UoB’s Sikh Society.
