Looking for your first internship? B-Experienced applications are opening soon
Looking to gain real work experience but not sure where to start? The University of Birmingham’s B-Experienced Internship Programme is back — and applications open 11 February to 4 March for internships starting from May 2026.
Designed especially for students and recent graduates with little or no professional work experience, B-Experienced internships offer a supportive way to step into the world of work while getting paid and building skills that employers value.
What is a B-Experienced Internship?
B-Experienced internships are short, flexible opportunities with a range of in-person, hybrid and remote roles available. You will work on a real project or within a specific business area, with clear guidance, support and development built into the role.
All opportunities are advertised on Careers Connect and can be easily spotted by titles starting with ‘B-Experienced Internship’.
Interns will receive a University-funded bursary, depending on the length of the internship:
- £855 for a 70-hour internship
- £1,710 for a 140-hour internship
Why apply?
Taking part in the programme gives you the chance to:
- Gain hands-on experience in a professional working environment
- Build confidence and develop transferable skills for your CV
- Make a real impact, especially within third-sector organisations
- Receive recognition through The Birmingham Award, boosting your academic transcript
Who can apply?
You can apply if you are:
- An undergraduate or postgraduate student
- A 2024 or 2025 graduate
- Have no or minimal professional work experience
Your eligibility is not affected by experience such as volunteering, hospitality or retail jobs, work shadowing, insight days, virtual programmes (such as Forage), University employer challenges, and student roles like Course Rep or Student Ambassador.
If you are an international student, you can still apply — as long as your internship fits within your visa working-hour limits.
Important note for international students
If you are on a Student visa, you will need to:
- Check that your visa allows you to take part in the internship
- Make sure your total working hours (including other jobs) stay within your permitted limit
- Inform the host organisation of any restrictions so a suitable working pattern can be arranged
