Love Your Leftovers

Did you know that a staggering 55% of students have relied on food banks during their time at University? Alongside this, there's an estimated 9.5 million tonnes of food waste each year in the UK.

Sustainability is key part of our mission here at UoB. We’re always looking for more ways to go green and keep the costs down for you while you’re studying with us.

That’s why our very own Food Fellows are calling on you to ‘love your leftovers’ by sharing your favourite food waste-reducing tips and recipes from 24 April to 31 May.

Whether you're a pro at turning last night's leftovers into a mouthwatering dish or simply love to cook up a storm, we’d love to hear from you. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Share your foodie creations on Instagram using the hashtag #LoveYourLeftovers. Don’t forget to tag @UoBFoodFellows

  • Submit your recipe or idea using the form below. Remember to include any photos or videos!

Submit your idea

But wait, there’s more! The best recipes and tips will be showcased on our Instagram account and Food Fellows’ website each week. Plus, our favourite submissions will be entered into an exciting prize draw to win a packed fruit and veg box, brimming with fresh, homegrown produce from Winterbourne House and Garden and other local growers, plus a copy of Tamar Adler’s The Everlasting Meal Cookbook: Leftovers A-Z

And here’s the cherry on top: for every 100 submissions we receive, we make a donation to the Guild’s Community Pantry, providing one-off food parcels to students in need. Together, we really can make a difference.

So, let's roll up our sleeves, get creative in the kitchen, and show some love to our leftovers. Together, we can pave the way for a more sustainable future at UoB – one delicious meal at a time.

Good luck!
