UoB Xtra: Four ways to improve your employability
It’s that time of year again. Exams are almost over, you’ve hit your deadlines and you’re starting to think about applying for summer jobs, work experience or graduate roles. Whatever you’re thinking of applying for, here are four top tips to get you started.
- Update your CV: When did you last update your CV? Does it reflect everything you’ve done, learned and achieved over the last academic year? Can you better tailor it to the types of roles you’re applying for? Take a look at our resources to help you to get started.
- Make new connections on LinkedIn: LinkedIn (a business and employment-focused social media platform) can be a great way to make connections with professionals within your sector. The more, relevant connections you have can help you to become more commercially aware and could even lead to you finding out about jobs and other opportunities.
- Research: It can be good sometimes to just stop and take the time to really think about what you want to apply for and why. Spend some time exploring potential job roles and employers to gain a better understanding of what your options are and to identify what the best next step(s) for you are.
- Contact Us: Throughout the summer our team will be continuing to offer appointments each week to help you to refine your applications, prepare for interviews and get helpful advice and guidance. All of the above can be booked on Careers Connect.
Also, if you’re currently working on an application or would like help with your job search, come along to one of our Job Search Live events to get tailored support from the Careers Network Team. The events are taking place on campus on Wednesday 29 May and Wednesday 5 June (during UoB Xtra) and we’d love to see you there.
