Everything you need to know about the Campus 3K

Check out our highlights from our first ever Campus 3K Your Way during UoB Xtra 2024

Are you one of the 1,111 entrants who signed up to our 2025 Campus 3K?

We can’t wait for you all to come together to walk, run, push or skip their way to the finish on Wednesday 11 June during UoB Xtra.

Whether you’re taking part or coming along to cheer, here’s some key information on the 3K.

Collecting your number before the event

If you’ve registered for the Campus 3K, you’ll be provided with an event number, personalised with your first name. This will need to be attached on the front of your body so it’s clearly visible to marshals (this is super important).

We strongly recommend picking up your number ahead of event day to save time. Remember, the first 125 student entrants to pick up their number will receive a free commemorative t-shirt! Head down to the event gazebo, located underneath the Harding building (R1) next to Old Joe on:

  • Monday 9 June, 12.30pm - 3.30pm
  • Tuesday 10 June, 12.30pm – 3.30pm

Make sure you bring your number with you on the day of the event as we’re unable to reprint or change numbers!

Don’t worry if you can’t collect your number beforehand as you can pick it up on the day of the Campus 3K from 11.00am – 12.30pm from the UoB Xtra Stretch Tent on the Green Heart.

On the day

Head to the Green Heart and to the UoB Xtra Stretch Tent where you’ll find registration desks, bag drop as well as the pre-event briefing and warm up.

Starting the race at University Square will be Rory the Lion, the mascot for the University of Birmingham's Sport & Fitness. In support of Pride Month, joining Rory will be the fabulous Bold Joe, the drag persona of student Clem Atkins, who will also be running the 3K to fundraise for local charity Birmingham LGBT centre. You can donate to the fundraiser via Clem’s GoFundMe page.

Here’s the full event schedule:

  • 11.00am: Number collection and bag drop opens at the UoB Xtra Stretch Tent, Green Heart
  • 12.30pm: Number collection and bag drop closes
  • 12.40pm: Pre-event briefing on the event stage (Green Heart)
  • 12.45pm: Pre-event warm up on the event stage (Green Heart)
  • 12.55pm: Move to the start line (University Square, next to Old Joe)
  • 1.00pm: Campus 3K starts! Check out an image of the route below (you’ll be supported by marshals throughout)

More information and FAQs can be found on the event listing.

Road closures on the day

On the day of the 3K, temporary road closures will be put in place including access to the University ring road, so please plan your journey in advance.

The closures will also impact access to vehicles already parked on campus as access to campus will be paused between 12:45 to 14:00 on Wednesday 11 June.

If you need to access your vehicle to leave campus between these times then it’s recommended to use one of the car parks outside of the route, which includes:

  • South Gate Car Park
  • Edgbaston Park
  • West Car Park
  • Teaching & Learning Building Car Park (some small delays will occur around 13:00 – 13.15)
  • North East Multi Storey
  • Brailsford Drive Multi Storey
  • Selly Oak Campus

Can I still register for the Campus 3K?

Unfortunately, registrations have now closed but you’re welcome to come along and cheer on this year’s participants! Don’t forget the Campus 3K is just one of many free events, activities and challenges taking place in June as part of UoB Xtra. Explore the full programme on the UoB Xtra What’s On page.
