Your student file storage will be unavailable for upgrades in June

We’re making important upgrades to your student home drive, also known as the U:Drive —your personal file storage space allocated when you enrolled at the University.

What’s happening?

Starting in June, we’ll be upgrading the servers that support the U:Drive. These improvements are designed to enhance the security, resilience, and reliability of your stored files and data.

When will the upgrade happen?

The upgrade work will be conducted over two consecutive weekends, commencing at 18:00. The specific date for your student home drive upgrade will be determined by the first letter of your student username.

  • Sunday 15 June: Usernames beginning with A-J (e.g., ans165 - jxz033)
  • Sunday 22 June: Usernames beginning with K-Z (e.g., kew128 - zrx421)

How will this affect you?

While we carry out the upgrade, your student home drive (U:Drive) will be unavailable from 18:00 until 8:00 the following morning. This means that you won’t be able to retrieve files from your home drive or save any files to it during that time. We recommend that you save any files from your home drive that you think you will need during the upgrade window to

  • Your University OneDrive for Business Cloud storage
  • Locally on your device prior to the work being carried out

These upgrades apply to Undergraduate and Postgraduate taught students. If you’re a PhD student, your home drive is hosted separately and should not be affected.
