The UGS PGT Ambassador Scheme

The University Graduate School enables postgraduates from across the University to integrate and cooperate, intellectually and socially. The UGS supports postgraduate student-led interdisciplinary workshops and conferences, social events, training, and networking. 

As the University Graduate School, we value giving postgraduate taught (PGT) students the chance to run their own events, support and shape our flagship events, and build up their skills and experience.

That’s why in the 2021-2022 academic year we’re launching the University Graduate School PGT Ambassadors.

We’re looking for ten PGT students from across all five Colleges, who can help support the UoB PGT community building by developing and running College and university-wide events for other PGT students, in exchange for a £1000 scholarship.

Each scholarship runs for the period mid-November 2021 – mid-August 2022, and asks for 2-3 hours of your time per week, or an average of one day per month. Each Ambassador will be asked to use this time to:

• Lead at least one event over the course of the year,
• Co-lead at least one event per month as part of the Ambassador a team,
• Support UGS events such as Images of Research and My PGT in 3.

However, the role is flexible and every effort will be made to accommodate Ambassador’s academic and personal commitments.

The scheme will provide an ideal opportunity for postgraduate taught students to develop professional skills in a number of areas including: organising and promoting events; communication; project management; budget management; acting as an Ambassador to an organisation and service. The Ambassadorship holders will be able to improve and expand their professional networks and gain valuable insight and knowledge of issues affecting PGTs, as well as of a Higher Education institution as a whole.
