Countdown to Christmas (1-17 December)

Fancy meeting Santa and his reindeer? Joining a singalong at the University Carol Service? Watching the Christmas lights switch on?.... the Countdown to Christmas on campus has begun!

As we approach the end of a busy semester for us all, the University will be hosting Countdown to Christmas, a two-week festive celebration to help spread Christmas joy and fun! Based in and around Chancellor’s Court, students and staff from the University are encouraged to come along and take part in all the various activities, food, music and enjoy the festivities.

Launching on Wednesday 1 December, Countdown to Christmas will continue until Friday 17 December. Check out the Countdown to Christmas programme for details of what is happening over this period of time.

On Wednesday 1 December, delicious food awaits in Chancellor’s Court (11am – 2pm) as Digbeth Dining Club arrives on campus. From 2-6pm, we are expecting a visit from Santa and his reindeer and at 5pm the Christmas lights switch on will take place (by the University Christmas Tree in Chancellor’s Court), keep a look out for our beloved Old Joe being festively decorated for the occasion. The day will be rounded off in festive style with the University’s Carol Service in the Great Hall.

As Countdown to Christmas continues, don’t miss out on photo opportunities to post on social media, as our University will have the backdrop of not only the colourful Old Joe, but also of the University Christmas tree placed right outside the Bramall Music Building. Keep an eye out on Thursday 2 December where a large snow dome will be placed in the centre of campus to take photos with friends by and have fun!

Share your selfies and pictures on social media, with the hashtag #UoBChristmas to spread the message and festive joy.
