Important update for all students: Industrial Action

As you may already be aware, throughout the last week the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) and the representative body for university employers (UCEA) have been meeting with the conciliation service ACAS, in an attempt to resolve the current industrial action over pensions, pay and working conditions.  In a joint statement issued late on Friday it was confirmed that, an agreement has been reached which will suspend the planned industrial action for a two-week period.

This means that the strike action scheduled for this week, commencing Monday 20 February, and next week, commencing Monday 27 February, will now not go ahead. All lectures and normal teaching and learning activity will go ahead as scheduled across these two weeks

This is extremely positive news. While it does not mean that the national dispute has been finally resolved, talks will now continue to try and find a resolution that will avert further dispute or industrial action. We will keep you updated with any changes and developments as quickly as we can in what is a fast-moving situation.

We will keep you updated with any changes and developments as quickly as we can in what is a fast-moving situation.  We will continue to post updates on the intranet, via the MyUoB App and the FAQ webpages.

Our priority throughout this dispute has been to minimise the impact of the industrial action on students, and your School/Department will continue to arrange mitigation for any teaching events cancelled due to the previous days of industrial action.

We are grateful for your understanding during the difficult circumstances of the action, and very pleased that there will be no further disruption to your studies over the next two weeks.

Thank you.
