Your brand-new sustainability initiative

We recently launched a competition inviting you to vote on one of the following sustainability projects:   

• Returnable Cup Scheme  
• Living Pillars™  
• Sustainable Travel Schemes  
• Tech Swap Scheme   

We received 780 votes in total and are delighted to announce that the Living Pillars™ initiative has won!  

Living PillarsTM 

The initiative is an innovative way to introduce planting to urban areas using street lighting columns. The project also plans to:  

• Promote biodiversity by aiding pollinators and generalist bird species.
• Support wildlife with the use of automatic irrigation, and bird and insect boxes. 
• Mitigate street level pollution. 
• Improve air quality.

Over the next year, we’ll be working with the Biodiversity Action Group and our Estates team to explore how and where these might be implemented on campus to best support connectivity of different areas of wildlife.
