Apply now for Engage Amazonia Summer School
The University of Birmingham’s Brazil Institute is launching Immerse Amazonia, an undergraduate level binational summer school in the heart of the Amazon. Immerse Amazonia will happen in July 2025 at the Caxiuanã Forest Scientific Sation, in the estate of Pará, Brazil.
The summer school’s goal is to provide a unique and life-changing experience for enthusiastic undergraduate students across multiple areas, including indigenous students from the Brazilian Amazon region. Students and academic staff from Birmingham and Brazil will work together to co-create adaptive practices and solutions to promote the wellbeing of Amazonian ecosystems and beyond.
By bringing together and training the next generation of scientists and scholars, this international summer school will explore existing and new ways of relating to the environment. This programme aims to help counteract and adapt to present and future global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, and the loss of traditional knowledge.
Using a co-creation of knowledge approach across generations, disciplines, nationalities, and ethnic backgrounds, the summer school aims to deliver a unique educational experience that will build global bridges of friendship and train generations of ‘future-makers’ across the Amazon region and the world through an international immersion and a delegation to COP30 in Brazil.
