Start today and make a difference in your community
Want to make a positive impact on those around you during your time at UoB? Set aside space to focus on helping in your community.
There are many ways you can do this and make a difference from volunteering in the community to donating your pre-loved items to charity shops.
Give your time
You can get involved in volunteering with local charities from Action against homeless to UNICEF on campus. Check out the Guild of Students for volunteering opportunities. Anyone can get involved and you don’t need to have had any previous experience.
Donate your items
Charities are always looking for shoes, fashion, accessories, toys, books and homeware in good condition that they can resell in their local community shops. Spring is just around the corner so get one step ahead and sort through and donate your unwanted pre-loved items. Buying and selling second hand helps sustainability and reducing waste.
Fundraise
Whether you’re looking for a sporty challenge, wanting to put your cooking skills to good use, or just bringing everyone together for a bit of fun, you can help raise funds for charity. Get your housemates together to bake and sell delicious treats or take part in your local Parkrun where you can run, walk, or jog and get your mates to sponsor you. Organise a book swap and donate money towards each book you read.
On the streets
Showing kindness to those that sleep rough on the streets can be done in different ways. You could donate blankets to local shelters such as St Anne’s homeless hostel who offer safe accommodation to those who are homeless. Or if you can afford to consider buying a hot drink or food.
