How to be truly happy? Find out at the Happiness Lecture 2025
What does it mean to be truly happy? How do we find and keep happiness in a world that often feels chaotic? If you've ever pondered these questions, you're not alone. Join acclaimed journalist and broadcaster Clive Myrie as he explores happiness in this year’s Baggs Memorial Happiness Lecture.
Born in Birmingham in 1889, Thomas Baggs was an alumnus of the University who went on to become a teacher, journalist and a war correspondent for the Daily Mail before pursuing a successful career in advertising and publicity for the USA automobile industry.
When he died in 1973 Thomas bequeathed a substantial sum to the University to provide for an annual public lecture on the theme of ‘Happiness - what it is and how it may be achieved by individuals as well as nations.’
This year, the lecture will be delivered by Clive Myrie, multi award winning journalist, one of the BBC’s most experienced foreign correspondents and a recognised face as a BBC News presenter. In 2021 he took over as Host of the long running BBC series, Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind.
