Welcome is upon us!

From Saturday 16 - Friday 22 September, there’s a wide range of exciting opportunities available on campus. We have a week of fun-filled events, and informative sessions for you. We’ve shared some of the main events below and head over to the What’s On page to see more activities and customise your experience  this Welcome.

Visit a fair

The Welcome Fair, taking place in the Great Hall of the Aston Webb Building (the entrance is next to our famous clock tower, Old Joe) is a great opportunity to meet all the different teams and services who will support you throughout your degree. Make sure to pop down from Saturday-Monday (10:00-16:00, extended to 17:00 on Monday).

Are you looking to open a student back account? Head down to the Meet the Banks event in the Bramall Music Building on Monday (11:00 -15:00) where you’ll have the chance to chat with high street banks about which options are most suited to your needs, and to ask any questions you might have.

In the Sports and Fitness Centre on Tuesday 19 September, sign up to play your favourite sport or dive into trying something completely new! Whether you’re a beginner or pro sports player, looking after your fitness and wellbeing is an essential part of university life.

On Wednesday and Thursday (11:00-16:00) in the Guild of Students, our wide range of groups and societies are on display. You can meet the different student groups and societies there are and sign up. Whether you’re a newcomer to the arts and crafts world or a major Harry Potter fan, there’s a society for anyone and everyone to join.

Your Wellbeing

The start of your university experience can be an overwhelming and challenging time as you adjust to a new way of living away from home. Throughout the week, our Wellbeing teams are on hand to offer support and guidance. If you need a quiet space, want to try some calming activities, or just need a listening ear, head down to the Wellbeing Marquee (open 10:00-16:00) everyday of Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week.

International Students

A huge welcome to our international students too! We can only hope that you’re adapting to the British weather – at the time of writing we have gorgeous sunshine, but we hope you’ve packed an umbrella as things change quickly! Pop along to the International Welcome Celebration on Wednesday 20 September (16:00-18:00) in the Great Hall in the Aston Webb Building. Here, you’ll find out all the information on what’s on offer in Birmingham, meet key people from the University and the Guild of Students, as well as finding out more about our international community on campus.

Returning Students

For our returning students, welcome back! We hope that you’ve enjoyed a lovely summer and are ready to start a new academic year. There are workshops, one-to-ones and advice and support for both second and final year students with the Academic Skills Centre to help you prepare.
